Artistic Concepts by Carolyn

Daily blog of art in progress by Carolyn Needleman with personal comments by the artist. I primarily work in oil, because I enjoy the rich texture and buttery feel of the oil as I paint. You can manipulate oil to create color excitement, drama, mood and texture in a painting. There is a pleasure in creating a work of art from first draft to finished project that excites me and fills my fundamental need to create.

July 30, 2206

Well, all good things come to an end sooner or later. My trip to Washngton State and California will come to an end tomorrow.

I have had a wonderful time visiting my high school girl friend Stephanie and my daughter Elaine who lives in San Francisco, Ca.

The costal views of California and Washington are spectacular. I took many photos and hope to do some drawings, oil paintings and pastel pieces based upon my photos.

The weather here in California has been great. San Francisco is cooler than the surrounding areas. Coming home to 100 degree weather. Hope the air conditioner is still working!

Bye for now. Remember to enjoy each and every day.

July 25, 2006

The last three days have been very busy with travel and touring.

Sunday and Monday were spent in Pebble Beach, Carmel-by the-sea and Monterey. The weather was hot but not humid so walking around the towns and art galleries was plesant. So much inspiration!

Ocean views were spectacular of the Pacific. The ocean was calm and the air was clear for good viewing. We were able to see dolphins and harbour seals.

The Monterey Aquarium was outstanding in it's presentation of the life of the area of Monterey in the Pacific Ocean. It is a great child friendly atmosphere with outstanding exibits for both adult and child. You learn as you enjoy!

Today, Monday, July 25th was inspirational. I was able to view several outstanding Leroy Neiman litheographs in San Francisco. I love his interpretation of his subject matter and his bold use of color. His work is so very alive...his work just sings!

Well, enough for today.
Enjoy the life that you live today and remember to see beauty. It is all around us.

Creative Planning Day

July 22, 2006 Saturday

Spent the day with my daughter, Elaine, her friend Piper, and Piper's three year old daughter Hannah. We drove over the Golden Gate Bridge to Saulsalito where we disembarked and started walking.

The art galleries are very interesting. It was instructive and fun. I got a lot of inspiration for new projects and new works. I think I will go back to doing some palette knife work, in addition to my regular brush work painting.

It's been a long time since I did palette knife paintings. I enjoy creating using various knifes and I have several subjects in mind. (Better write them down, before I loose the inspiration.)

Bye, and remember to enjoy each day.

I have just spent a week with my dear friend Stephanie and her husband Joe. Stephanie is my friend from high school. I have known Stephanie and Joe for fifty years. It was wonderful spending time with them again, and meeting their grandson, Tyler.

This week I will be with my daughter, Elaine, during some touring. Will let you know what we do together. It should be fun as Elaine is an on the go type of woman.

Bye, enjoy the view as you only go around once in this lifetime.

Art is taking a back seat to other things this week and the next two weeks. I have not been spending enough time with family and friends andI need to catch up with them.

Going to spend time at the museum and get some culture and inspiration. Also going to the beach with friends.

Everyone needs some r & r now and then, even if they love their jobs.

Stay cool and enjoy the view!

I spent today driving to Ventor NJ today to see my new great grand niece, Hannah. What a little doll baby she is! She was born 7 weeks ago in Nashville, Tenn. to my nephew Eddie and his wife Laurie. The family is up from Tenn. for several weeks to visit with both sets of grandparents. What a joy to be able to see her when she is so little.

Art will take center stage tomorrow I hope. I will be able to do some drawing tomorrow and Thursday on a new project. Have lot's of ideas on the back burner and some on the front burner too.

Stay cool and enjoy the view.

Thursday's mentor session with Lori Levin of Soulful Studios went well this week.

I did more block in of color to the back ground of the sill life and worked to bring the objects in the still life into completion. About two more weeks of work will finish this project I think.

I spend about one and one half hours with Lori on each painting session per week.

My sessions at my home studio are going well. I am working on several projects.

One a sad note, my cat Chloe is at the vet today. She is in need of dental care and will have several extractions today. Other than this problem, she has been very healthy. I'm glad this situation was caught early before she really got ill.

Chloe is a calico short hair cat that is eleven years old. She is my affectionate and loving little girl.

Take care all and remember to be good to your animals. They are looking to you to love them and keep them well and to do right by them.

Independence Day

July 4, 2006

Happy Fourth of July to each and all.

Let freedom ring, and let all appreciate how good people have it here in the good old USA.

Sure we have social and political problems here and have a long way to go, but think of how far this nation has come since 1776.

Working together for the good of the nation and all, we will get there together, one nation united.
