Artistic Concepts by Carolyn

Daily blog of art in progress by Carolyn Needleman with personal comments by the artist. I primarily work in oil, because I enjoy the rich texture and buttery feel of the oil as I paint. You can manipulate oil to create color excitement, drama, mood and texture in a painting. There is a pleasure in creating a work of art from first draft to finished project that excites me and fills my fundamental need to create.

May 31, 2006

May has been a very interesting month.

I completed several pieces this month. They are, "Not a Shy Violet", Two Egg Omelet" and "Peppers and Onion." All will be going up for sale Sunday, June 4th. on ebay along with several other of my oil paintings.

I hope that June becomes a productive month for new work. I have started a seascape with a sailing vessel and people. I will photograph it soon and put it up on this blog for all to see.

Thanks go out to the several people that have purchased my paintings this month.

Stay well, keep your cool and enjoy the view.

Memorial Day

May 29, 2006

Happy Memorial Day to one and all. May we take time to remember all that have served this country and all that have sacrificed to make this country free.

One a lighter note, you may notice that some time has past since I posted anything to this blog. Well, I took a break from art for the past week to catch up one some projects for the home. It's a never ending commitment when you are a home owner to keeping the house in good shape. Enough said, it's back to art this week.

Not a Blue Monday

May 15, 2006

Today, Monday, is not a blue Monday.

Thank you family and friends for a wonderful Mother's Day. It was good to see and hear from children and to spend time with them and the grandchildren.

Now, back to art projects. I am in a beach mood today. Since it is raining out today, I need to go to the beach in my mind, instead of taking a day trip to the Jersey shore.

I looked through my photos and found two that I like and think will make interesting art.

One is a sailing ship off the coast of the Jersey shore. The other is of a group of people sitting on the sand at the Jersey shore.

The second picture is more complex. I think that I will go with the sailing ship today and begin that project and save the second picture for later. (After all, it is still Monday and I haven't had my wake up cup of tea as yet.)

Wish me luck on the new project, please. I will post the preliminary start on the next post.

Happy Mothers Day

May 13, 2006

Happy Mother's day to all you young and not so young Mothers and Grandmothers. Have a wonderful day and time with your loved ones.

I know that I am a day early for good wishes but I will be occupied tomorrow with family and friends and will not be able to do a posting.

"Jill's Garden" is going up for sale tonight on ebay. If you use the search area and type in artistnj I am sure that you will find the piece. I may put one or two more pieces in addition up for sale. So, wish me luck.

Have a great Sunday and Mother's Day.

Pepper and Onions with Eggs

May 11, 2006

"Peppers and Onions" the companion piece to "Two Egg Omelet" was completed today. I plan to put both of the pieces up for sale on eBay on May 21. I need to varnish "Peppers and Onions" after it dries, hence the wait.

I currently have one piece up for sale on www.artbyus.com It is "Not a Shy Violet" for your viewing and possible purchase.

I have been having trouble loading another painting entitled "Jill's Garden" on their web site. I can not get my picture to enter their system. I am working on that with their help.

Now it's on to planning new pieces of art...humm What next?

May 9, 2006

Today has been a pepper and onion day.

I started the companion oil painting of red, green peppers and yellow onion to coordinate with my last painting titled "Two Egg Omelet." The best omelets are with eggs, peppers and onions in my opinion. Leave out the cheese on this one.

This painting of peppers and onions is not finished by a long shot. I am forced to stop as usual for certain passages to dry before I can add all of the "goodies." Are you wondering what the "goodies" are? Well, they are the lighter colors and the highlights to make this painting sing.

Then what next? A painting of a skillet? Would that be too much? What do you think?

May 7, 2006

Well, I have finally come back to my blog.

This week has been a busy one but not for art. There is a lot of yard work to be done and a lot of planting of spring and summer flowers to be done. I think that it will take another one to two weeks to get all of that done. Then I can relax and just water all of my lush, lovely garden and have a lot of subjects to paint and admire.

I did have time to finish "Two Egg Omelet" on Thursday. It is above us on this post. I believe that I will do a companion piece with red and green bell peppers. Maybe add a jalapeno or two to spice things up. What do you think?
