Artistic Concepts by Carolyn

Daily blog of art in progress by Carolyn Needleman with personal comments by the artist. I primarily work in oil, because I enjoy the rich texture and buttery feel of the oil as I paint. You can manipulate oil to create color excitement, drama, mood and texture in a painting. There is a pleasure in creating a work of art from first draft to finished project that excites me and fills my fundamental need to create.

Vacation Ends Tomorrow

April 14, 2008

Well, folks, today is my last full day in San Fransisco. What a trip! The best one in San Francisco for a long time.

Why, you might ask? Several reasons, I guess. My trip was the longest one, to this city. Eighteen days to be exact. It gave me more time to enjoy and get around the city by car and bus than before. I really learned how the city was laid out, and the location of one area to another. Driving myself helped a great deal, after I got over my fear of the many hills and drops. (It actually got to be fun! Like here we go again!)

Another reason was that I got to spend quality time with my daughter, Elaine. We were able to go out and see sights together, go to the opening game of the San Francisco Giants, go to a concert, museums, and dine out several times. Since we live on opposite coasts, we don't see each other on a regular monthly basis.

I recommend a visit to the De Young museum in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco. I enjoyed their regular collection and the Mayan pottery exhibit very much.

Elaine and I went to the Russian River area, above Santa Rosa, Ca. this past week end, The area is unspoiled, sparsely populated, and beautiful. We took many pictures of the area. Hopefully a few will turn up in my paintings.

We stopped at two vineyards, Korbel and Iron Horse. Lunch at Korbel was very good. Champagne and wine was excellent at Iron Horse.

I am looking forward with enthusiasm for my return home to New Jersey. I have several oil paintings in mind. I also have plans to begin a new pastel still life piece.

Will catch you all up on the progress of my new pieces of art as they are born.

Remember to enjoy the view of life. It can be very beautiful.

Carolyn
